A few things I’d put at the top of the list. First, reliability and professionalism — someone who shows up on time, communicates clearly throughout the planning process, and looks the part on the day. Appearance matters at corporate events; your entertainment reflects your brand. Second, ask about insurance — many venues require a certificate of liability, and not every DJ carries one. I do. Beyond that, sound system quality is more important than most people realize. The right setup for the room makes or breaks the vibe. A great DJ doesn’t just bring gear — they know how to read the acoustic environment and adjust in real time. As a music producer with songs that have been played on radio stations and blogs, I’ve developed a trained ear for sound — how it sits in a space, how it hits differently in a ballroom versus an outdoor terrace, and how to calibrate in real time so it always feels right.
